During the World FIDE Chess Championship Match the Multimedia Art Museum invites all lovers of the main intellectual sport to an exciting multimedia exhibition «Chess figures. 20th Century».

During the World FIDE Chess Championship Match the Multimedia Art Museum invites all lovers of the main intellectual sport to an exciting multimedia exhibition «Chess figures. 20th Century».

The exhibition presents over 100 photographs, made by such prominent authors as Boris Ignatovich and Boris Dolmatovsky, as well as posters of the most important tournaments. On the photographs public will see legendary chess champions — Alexander Alekhin, Mikhail Botvinnik, Mikhail Tal, Viktor Korchnoi, Anatoly Karpov, Garry Kasparov and others — at the board and at home, at important tournaments and friendly matches. Each photo is accompanied by a detailed commentary, which will allow viewers to learn more about the game, which in Soviet times was one of the most important «export» products along with the cosmos and the ballet.

In addition to the photos exhibition will feature a number of unique chess sets, including rare instances of the XIX century, the original Soviet sets, «Town and Country» and others. Throughout the world, chess sets are a popular collectible, and the creators’ Fantasy offers more and more variations of black and white figures.

For the press

In the MAMM cinema hall there will be shown two films about chess. In the comedy of Vsevolod Pudovkin «Chess fever» (1925) about a young man who missed his own wedding because of the love of chess, Jose Raul Capablanca starred in the role of himself. The film «Grand Master» (1972), scripted by Leonid Zorin — is a real sports drama in which in addition to many famous actors played Viktor Korchnoi (after his departure from the USSR the film was removed to shelf for ages).

Chess fever will cover each and every visitor of MAMM during the exhibition. In the lobby of the museum there will be a playground for playing park chess, and the young guests on weekends will be able to play original provided by Lego. A key event in the additional program of the exhibition will be an simultaneous game with children, held by the one of the best Russian grandmaster.
